Soursop Lane

Gingerland, Nevis

West Indies

A true "Sanctuary for the Spirit"

A comfortable home on the foothills of Mount Nevis built in the old West Indian style with up to date amenities.  The interior is finished with Mexican saltillo tile and wood plank floors, with louvered doors and windows, antique mahogany accents and decorated with an island flair.

The house is surrounded by bougainvillea, frangipani, night blooming jasmine and other plants indigenous to the Caribbean.  The property is located down a private lane that meanders through the native mango, citrus, soursop and acacia and ends at the gate of the house

Located in Gingerland on the Windward side of Nevis, and cooled by constant trade winds.  Nights can be a bit chilly and a light sweater is recommended.  The house is 4 minutes away from the main road (10 minutes on foot) and approximately 700 feet above sea level.

The wrap around gallery encompasses three sides of the house with separate seating arrangements - you're guaranteed the best views from all sides!

Lie in the hammock and enjoy the cooling trade winds as well as panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Nevis Peak and the neighboring islands of Montserrat, Antigua, Barbuda and Redonda.  If you're lucky you'll get to see the native wild vervet monkeys scamper through the yard on their morning and evening outings.

If choosing to cook in, be sure and sample the variety of fresh herbs in the garden just outside the kitchen.

At night you will be sung to sleep by our tree frogs chirping and the smell of jasmine and stephanotis wafting through the windows.

Guests of Soursop Lane may use the facilities of Golden Rock Plantation.

Come explore our tiny island steeped in history: Alexander Hamilton was born here, Horatio Nelson met and married Fanny Nisbet here, Cicely Tyson hails from a village on the other side, Gingerland supplied the world with, yes, you guessed it, ginger, and is now the breadbasket of Nevis.  Stroll the Upper Round Road not in use since plantation days - when Nevis was the largest supplier of sugar to the Continent.  Take some time to deep sea fish, ocean kayak, snorkel or play a round of golf on Four Season's Championship Robert Trent Jones II golf course (reservations required) or play a game of tennis.

Minutes away you'll find some of the oldest plantations on the island serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Numerous other Plantation Inns and local establishments are also nearby for your dining pleasure.  For a less strenuous holiday, choose a book from our eclectic collection in the home and take in one of the many beaches available on the island.
